Metamerism/Bronzing
Metamarism is the shift in colour that prints show under under different lighting conditions. For example a print
may show different colours when viewed in daylight or under artificial light. A profile produced to match the expected viewing
conditions can help to maintain accurate colour.
Bronzing is the glossy bloom that appears with some paper/ink combinations.
Original Epson 'K' inks (Epson 2100/2200) are very prone to this defect.
Unfortunately this is a problem with the inks themselves and
profiling will only have a limited affect in controlling this problem.
Manufacturers are working to solve these problems. For instance the Epson R800/R1800 have a 'gloss optimiser' cartridge
that coats the print with a thin clear varnish when printing on glossy media.
The newer Epson K3 inks (Epson R2400) include the optimiser in the inks and appear to control metamarism and bronzing.
These problems show up more on gloss papers than semi-gloss, matt or lustre papers. If metamarism or bronzing are showing up
with your printer it is recommended that you
only use semi-gloss or lustre papers to help control this problem.
